Sermon on the Mount- As a Man Thinketh

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; And it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven." -MATHEW V

I interpret this as saying I must remove selfishness, pride, vanity, sensuality, self righteousness, jealousy, self pity, resentment, condemnation and so on. All these things seem to have merit in the moment, but then loose there "SAVOUR." For they had no true merit in the first place. I must not give into them, refuse them expression. If I extend the right thought loyally to every person or thing especially to the people or things I dislike, I am worthy to be called the salt of the Earth. I will always have difficulties and troubles through out my life and if I demonstrate this lack of attention to the negative and focus on the true path, not only will I triumph all obstacles, but I will be a healing and illumining influence on all around. The "Light of the World" It matters not what I say but what I do. I can never force spiritual truth, I can only teach by example and those who are ready to see the light, will see.
